Never too little. Never too late...

THE WARDROBE CHALLENGE

Recently, I was talking with some female friends...all over sixty...and the conversation turned to wardrobe choices. It was unanimously decided that shopping for clothing gets more difficult as we age. Why?

Even though over sixty is a HUGE demographic, the fashion industry still caters to younger shoppers...most likely because they buy more "on-trend" fashions...which translates to "they simply buy more clothing because trends change almost daily."

Let's face it, we are at somewhat of a disadvantage when it comes to putting together an attractive, functional wardrobe. The clothes designed for the younger crowd are really cute...however, on us they often look...well...kind of wrong. Like, they don't really fit our bodies right...or we're trying too hard to look youthful. And desperately clinging to youth is never attractive.

The other side of the coin is "dressing our age." I mean, we're not THAT old! I know that too short, tight, frilly, or frou-frou aren't right for me, but I'm not quite ready for the elastic-waisted, pseudo jeans and strategically flared, belly-fat minimizing tunic tops either.

I'm looking for style, versatility and good quality. More timeless and classic...less cute and trendy. But NOT boring!

I've posted some photos of things I would wear on a casual day...which is most days. My wardrobe choices tend to be neutral, black and white, and jeans. I love a crisp white shirt. Sandals for Summer. A well-fitting black jacket that goes with everything. Bags that are stylish but functional. I'm willing to pay more for pieces that are easy to mix and match and will last for several seasons.

Once you have defined your style, it's much easier to shop. I avoid impulse purchases by going shopping for a specific item or outfit and putting on blinders to all the rest. I DO NOT clothes shop when I'm bored!

This works for me. What is your style?
